Outdoor Climbing Clinic – Info and Rego

Hello Members.  Please see the details of our upcoming Outdoor Sports Climbing Clinics.  These are a shortened version of a 2-day comprehensive course that we run.  With your existing experience they will provide a good base to start climbing independently outdoors on bolted sports routes. We are keeping the groups small (max 4 per session) to allow everyone time to practice these skills on the rock.  Some of the more advance topics below will be covered but will definitely require further practice post the session.

Fundamental Topics we will cover include:

  • Crag selection and local ethics.
  • Gear choices, care and maintenance. Understanding what forces. equipment is designed for and gear limitations.
  • Difference between top roping and lead climbing set ups.
  • Key safety principals and systems, route selection and the risk assessment process.
  • Basic knots required for sport climbing.
  • Lead belaying techniques and devices + catching falls!!
  • Lead climbing techniques, clipping quick draws, body position, footwork and efficiency.
  • Understanding different bolts and use of fixed bolted anchors.

We will also go through some more advance concepts:

  • “Cleaning” anchors and sports gear off the climb.
  • Lead Falls – risk assessment, fall technique, managing fear and developing falling skills over time.
